Detailed description:

hackmud allows you to play with other players in a massively multiplayer online world and allows you to actually type out your attempts at hacking through the use of an in-game scripting language. It even has an overarching story!

In hackmud, players are tasked with completing various «trials laid out for you by the Multi-User Domain’s governing super-intelligence, ‘The Trust.'» Along the way, they will slowly build «digital empires» by completing raids, grabbing loot drops, and selling code you’ve written to other players, all the while crushing others’ digital empires and taking their digital goods. The best part? There is no grind. How well you do is determined by how well you understand the game’s systems.

  • Developer of the game here— just FYI you won’t be able to play the game without a valid steam account and ownership of the game. You can buy that at any of these links:

With «Game Review Companies» being paid for good ratings. Trailers over hyping shit games. Game consumers even lied to by indie developers, and their publishers. No — Put out a decent Demo of your game, otherwise lower the price. From what I’ve seen so far it’s not a $20 game.

Many games who are using early access are exploiting steam. They mass sell early access and stop developing shortly after a small «Launch» you’re hitting a market that is very upset with it’s producers. If you want more money and support. Drop the price of your game and open a Patreon. So people who actually enjoy your game, and want to support can. But players who are wary of shitty companies don’t have to worry about losing out on a bad game.

      • Hi Zepzon :)

Glad you have strong feelings about consumer protections. Free games and demos are awesome!
As a sole developer of the game, though, I can’t support a free title or a demo of the game. There’s just too much abuse and overhead in a multiplayer environment.
With my post, I just wanted to make sure that potential players knew that this torrent would not let them try the game, as the game is online-only.
It also looks like the site edited my comment about this torrent probably containing spyware / malware, and will probably do it again. (unless hilariously, this is your website and you edited my post, then you DEFINITELY have to play my game, b/c you would LOVE IT :D)

Hopefully, people reading this can watch some sweet youtubers/streamers play the game and get a feel for the way the game works before they make a purchase decision. 😀

If you or any other posters have any questions about the game or why I chose the price or the sales model for it, I’m happy to answer them.

You should let me have the game for free since I have no money right now and I’m sure one free wont hurt your sales (and no one has to know)

Potential buyer of the game here. Can’t buy your game as it seems many can’t play it without great frustration, or play it all, full stop. Your servers are apparently unable to cope, i.e. your online-only design is ruining the game. Not a good look. It also promotes the idea of trying before you buy, i.e. piracy and torrents.

      • Hi Makadon! Thanks for the feedback.
I’ve been working as hard as I possibly can to resolve the server issues (it’s not as simple as $$s unfortunately) :(
The servers are still running at max capacity, but players are no longer reporting any performance issues.
I totally understand your hesitation in purchase and again appreciate your feedback!

A couple suggestions. In regards to a «free/demo» version, the easiest way, especially since it’s a text based game, is a daily time limit. Let non-paying users play for a maximum of like 30 minutes/day. Other options would be make a limited number of «free/guest» accounts. This if all the free connections are in use, a free user cannot get on the game.

As I haven’t seen the game, I don’t know if there are levels/tools, but you could also put a level cap, inventory cap, tool cap. Also eliminate the ability for guest players to hack characters/networks above a certain level/complexity.

By putting some type of «paywall» in place, your app will be able to get to a much wider audience, and then the people who do fall in love with the game won’t hesitate to spend the LEET amount of money you’re charging ($13.37). And the guest/free players who don’t like the game, won’t be the ones posting poor reviews if they have to pay for game and hate it.

By the way, I have years of server experience, and may be able to help with optimization and reducing the load on the servers. Feel free to contact me privately. Joprysko1 on the gmail website.
